About Us

Nina Kalu is a wife and mother of 4 lovely children, born in Britain but spent a significant amount of her early childhood in Aba, Abia State, Nigeria. Born into the family of Chief Uwa Igwe Kalu and Chief Lady Lovina Kalu, who both come from Abiriba, Ohafia local government in Abia state. Her background and environment could have driven Nina’s deep roots and love for the Igbo culture. Aba, the commercial nerve centre of southeastern Nigeria, is classed as the China of Africa, and the robust business and core traditional culture of the town follows Nina.

She completed her secondary education at Bishop Douglas R.C. school in East Finchley in London and further attended the Newport University of Wales. Although, since relocating back to the United Kingdom, Nina’s love for her culture never left her; as a mother of 4 living in an environment the English language is predominantly spoken, it became challenging to ensure her four children speak their native Igbo language fluently.

Looking for materials to enhance Igbo education has also been very daunting; hence ‘Mama Igbo’ was born. This brand Mamas Igbo was born out of absolute necessity.

Nina has written this book to help other parents like herself in the diaspora, or Nigeria teach their kids the Igbo language. Interestingly the awesomeness to prevent Igbo from going extrinsic.

It is worth knowing that the Igbo language is currently available as a course of study at the prestigious Oxford University in the United Kingdom. Mama Igbo is here to assist all Igbo and lovers of the Igbo language learn and keep the Igbo language alive.
